Not to be confused with the South African weight loss machine, SlimSmart the diet pill is a bit harder to find than most diet pills. SlimSmart seems to market itself to an older crowd of people, as in it’s description it mentions how it’s users can “age gracefully with a more youthful look”.
Claiming to be filled with natural ingredients, SlimSmart claims it can have it’s users losing weight, as well as keeping their metabolism healthy. But without very much product information, does this product really live up to it’s claims? We decided to find out.
SlimSmart is manufactured by the Naples, Florida based Health Center for Better Living (HCBL). HCBL was founded in 1990 and is known for producing a variety of health and wellness products, some of which include products that help with joint, cholesterol, digestive, heart and joint health. SlimSmart can be purchased on the company’s website, as well as third party retailers such as Amazon.com.
There is not much a description given as to how this product helps the metabolism or with weight loss. It is claimed however that SlimSmart has no side effects and that there is no starvation dieting included with use of this product.
Despite it’s claim that there are 1.5 million customers who are satisfied with this product, there is only one review that the official website features. There have also been very few reviews of this product elsewhere, which makes it’s claims at effectiveness questionable.
The company’s website is very clear about what ingredients go into it, as a label is provided. There is 200mcg of chromium which is included, which is superfluous since chromium is only needed in trace amounts. There is also cascara sagrada, which has been questioned by the FDA for it’s safety and effectiveness. For other diet pills with all natural ingredients, check out the top 10 list.
While the company’s website does not list any side effects, it should be noted that this product contains cascara sagrada which may cause side effects that include: stomach discomfort, dehydration, heart problems and lowered levels of sodium, potassium, chloride and electrolytes and dehydration.
Unlike other diet pills that may be very costly, SlimSmart is sold for the remarkably low price of just $10.
The inclusion of cascara sagrada is a cause for a bit of concern for us, as the FDA has questioned the safety and effectiveness of this ingredient. While the FDA banned use of cascara in prescription drugs, this did not apply to dietary supplements. Serious side effects from long term use of this product include dehydration, heart problems and lowered levels of potassium, electrolytes, sodium and chloride.
There is also the fact that this SlimSmart boasts that chromium is included in it. Although a common ingredient in diet pills, there is little evidence to support the claim that chromium can help with weight loss.
Overall SlimSmart lacks independent verification. There are very few reviews of this product despite the company claiming that “1.5 million satisfied customers”. That’s an extraordinary claim to make, but even the company’s website lacks more than 1 of these reviews!
SlimSmart makes some bold claims with how many satisfied customers it has. But although it can claim these customers, the lack of evidence of this leaves the phrase “1.5 million satisfied customers” as nothing more than words.
Bottom Line:
While making confident assertions about itself, there is no real proof that this product is as effective as it claims. There is no clinical evidence supporting anything, nor are there enough independent reviews that can show that this product really works. Better diet pills have both these qualities. As it stands this product is no better than what is displayed; just a picture on a computer screen with optimistic words attached to it.
