Sensa Review: Does it really work?

What is Sensa?

While diet pills are the latest craze, that doesn’t mean that all dietary supplements came in pill or capsule form. Thus was the story of Sensa, a short lived supplement that was marketed to it’s users that it could help them shed more than just a few pounds.

Sensa came in powder form and was applied over food. It was claimed that this product could help it’s users lose weight without changing diet at all! But alas, the reality of the matter wasn’t anything like it was advertised. In this review we will go over Sensa, what it was about and what happened to make this product now non-existent on the market.

Who makes it?

Sensa was created by Dr. Alan Hirsch, who specialized in patients who had problems with smell and taste. Known as an authority on the senses and having written over five books on the topic, Dr. Hirsch used his prestige to lure buyers to his product. Sensa Inc, was the company that manufactured Sensa, and the product could be purchased on the company’s website.

How (and) does it work?

Using Sensa seemed simple enough, if not too simple to some who were paying attention to details. All the user was instructed to do, was sprinkle Sensa over their food and after eating, it would help prevent hunger cravings. Dr. Hirsch cited a peer-reviewed study by the Endocrine society, claiming that subjects who used Sensa lost up to 30 pounds.

With time however, none of the claims that Dr. Hirsch cited were true, and as more and more people bought Sensa, people began to realize for themselves how hollow the promises of weight loss were, as they themselves didn’t see the results they were looking for.

What’s inside of it and are there side effects?

When Sensa was still around, included in it’s ingredients were a mixture of both natural and synthetic ingredients. Since it’s website was shut down, we were unable to see verbatim what they claimed their ingredients were and what they claimed to do. However through internet research we were able to determine what the various ingredients and side effects were in this product.

Ingredients:

Maltodextrin: Derived from corn starch in a highly processed fashion, it may negatively effect the bacteria in the gut. Commonly used as a food additive and as an artificial sweetener.
Tricalcium phosphate: A calcium based salt that is commonly used in dietary supplements, spices among other things. It’s effectiveness in weight loss is inconclusive.
Silica: Also known as silicon dioxide, this is commonly used in dietary supplements as a way to make sure ingredients don’t bind together.
Soy and milk: While being a great source of protein, soy may be considered unsafe because of it possibly being a GMO.
Natural and artificial flavors: Used to alter the flavor of foods, artificial flavors have been known to been derived from petroleum.

Side effects: Elevated blood pressure, sore mouth, mild headache, stomach discomfort and diarrhea.

What’s good about it?

Sensa was promoted by Dr. Hiersch, who was a well known authority in his field. It was because of this that many people that that he was telling the truth when he said that his product was successful in helping people lose weight.

What’s bad about it?

What made Sensa so popular was that supposedly a person didn’t need to change their diet or anything to lose weight, all they had to do was use Sensa and the weight would begin to fall off, like cutting strips of bacon off a ham.

While Dr. Hirsch used his status to get people to believe in his claims, the part he didn’t tell them about was how buying the product would turn out. To get a free trial of Sensa one had to sign up for it first. This would turn out not to be free when people would forget to cancel their payments and suddenly they were billed nearly $90 for the next shipment of Sensa. And if they had a starter kit and didn’t cancel, every 60 says they would also be billed $90. Both groups of people had unknowingly been enrolled in an auto-shipment program.

Eventually enough disgruntled buyers would voice their concerns, becoming so loud that lawsuits began to emerge. Lawsuit after lawsuit was filed until finally the FTC ended up mailing over $26 million in refunds to over 400,000 people who got duped by what seemed at first to be a weight loss miracle. Then on October 17, 2024 Sensa finally closed it’s doors, a failed scam created by a disgraced doctor with nothing to show for it.

Wrap Up

While seeming to be a weight loss miracle, in the end the words that were used to promote Sensa were found out to be hollow. Sensa did not work as it was claimed.

Bottom Line:

Sensa is a lesson to all those out there who are looking to lose weight, but who may be blinded by incredible promises that would have their imagination flying. When products out there sound too good to be true, generally speaking, it’s true. There are no miracles in the world of science. Companies may make up phony claims, all in the name of making ridiculous amounts of money. While Sensa may be gone, there will always be a market out there with real, dietary supplements that may not cost all that much. Sensa was an illusion of the mind, created for people who wanted to live in a dream, and were too afraid to face the reality of what it really takes to lose weight.
