Who makes it?

shake

Founded by the Canadian company Sequel Natural LTD, it maintains sustainable practices and has a website full of recipes and health tips.

They voluntarily recalled several of their brands including some shake formulas for containing trace amounts of an antibiotic. There is no details from the company as to how this happened or if this issue would arise again.

How (and) does it work?

20 grams of protein, roughly 150 calories and 6 grams of fiber are added to satiate hunger. The company only offer Vega One via a powder meant to be mixed with liquids.

The only issue with this plant protein is one key amino acid is missing. It does have digestive healthy additives like flax seed and hemp protein however. These make it an easy to digest product and they add a good source of fiber.

Some customers have reported that the formula is way too chunky and hard to choke down. Since it isn’t the most well rounded source of amino acids, some might do better by seeking alternative sources of protein. A list of the top 10 meal replacements was created by our experts, click here to what shakes were ranked.

What’s inside of it and are there side effects?

While the formula does have a lot of satisfying additions, it just isn’t well rounded enough to compete with whey protein. More well-rounded meal replacements are featured in the top 10 list of the very best.

Ingredients:
  • Inulin: Naturally sourced form of plant fiber added for the various ways it can provide support in products.
  • Pea Protein: A easily digested form of protein that does not have all the essential amino acids.
  • Stevia: Taken from the stevia plant, this sweetener is added to provide over 150 times more sweetness than regular sugar.
  • Citric Acid: A preservative and flavoring agent commonly added to foods.
  • Organic Acacia Gum: Taken from the acacia tree, this thickener is added to stabilize food products.

Potential Side Effects: Increased bathroom trips, headaches, vomiting, bloating, gas, diarrhea, fatigue, abdominal cramps and muscle cramps.

What’s good about it?

One major positive aspect is the fact the company offers a full disclosure and explanation for what their ingredients offer. They mention the daily values of their product, full nutritional breakdowns and ingredients listings.

The company practices good green friendly approaches by donating to organizations that help support the environment.

What’s bad about it?

shake

Due to the nature of plant protein, it doesn’t offer the same well rounded benefits that one could expect from something like whey protein.

This product also has had an FDA recorded history of recalls done by the company. This occurred due to the fact that they had contaminants. It’s not known how this happened, or what steps have been taking to ensure this mistake won’t happen again.

There are also amounts of trans fat according to the nutrition label. This is not a necessary additive, and in fact trans fat has been linked to several health issues including heart complications and obesity. Wrap Up

Vega One Nutritional Shake certainly has a lot of good components; it has a GMO free practice and contains a high amount of protein. These products also work to help provide a bunch of nutrients for the vegan friendly crowd. What is lacking however is that it doesn’t have as many amino acids as other formulas. One also has to find fault with the issue of past contamination that forced a company recall of several products.

Overall we like the company image, but the product itself isn’t as strong as a candidate as other more beneficial meal replacement brands. A list of the highest rated meal replacements can be found when you click here.

Bottom Line:

Vega One Nutritional Shake has a lot of good and some bad which is not found in the other meal replacement shakes on the market. Overall however, it failed to provide enough benefits to be considered one of the best.

Tried this product as it was a great value, bought it at Costco. I couldn’t get past the texture to even drink 1 shake. Waste of money for me. However, my bf drank it cause, as he put it, I don’t care, as long as it gets protein in me and doesn’t have soy.

  2. Denise Kastner says:

I buy the Vega fruits and vegetables powder. Yes there are clumps if not mixed thoroughly. I love it . My only concern is the high sodium content. I am not using it as a weight loss plan but as a meal replacement on busy days. So, why the high sodium . I have hypertension so this is a concern. I have not had any adverse reactions.

  3. Kathy says:

I just drank this and got insanely sick as if I got food poison. Bloating , nauseated, cramps , vomiting etc. this was the second time this has happened so now I know it is this product for sure . First time I had no idea what happened but now I for sure do.

  4. JessicA Lotzniker says:

They are thieves, the package brings back the weight that is 687 gr, actually inside C is only 400 and this in all packs. I wrote to the house, they told me that if I’m not good to go within 30 days to let me give back the money!

  5. Richard Chen says:

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. Hard to find a completed review. Personally, I don’t like the taste of the powdered smoothie, it is never my thing. On top, I tend to get stomach cramps. Maybe is the stevia?
